Our Mission

Taking consideration of financial burden and toxicity to physiological system by chemotherapeutic drugs for cancer treatment, diet derived agents might be novel strategy for prevention of cancer. Curcumin is known to modulate process of tumorigenesis via various mechanism. However, the poor bioavailability of curcumin is one of the main barriers to exploring it for therapeutic use because of its poor absorption, rapid metabolism, and rapid systemic elimination. Our work aims at establishing the scientific rationale to develop curcumin as adjunct drug for chemopreventive and therapeutic properties in neoplastic transformation.  In our study, we plan to utilize different combinations of diet-derived interventions to synthesize the various curcumin bioconjugates with the intention of chemically modifying curcumin which may work synergistically or have additive effects on the efficacy of curcumin or might improve the bioavailability of curcumin for its modulation of cancer stem cells in breast cancer.

The proposed projects aim to address few basic questions

 

1. To utilise various nutritional interventions which can improve efficacy of Curcumin targeting breast cancer stem cell

2. Designing and synthesis of therapeutically active Curcumin bioconjugates with suitable ligands

3. Characterize and purification of bioactive curcumin conjugate leads

4. Assessment of therapeutic activity Curcumin bioconjugates by investigating breast cancer related biomarkers

5. To study How the therapeutic properties curcumin after conjugation is modulated

6. Does curcumin bioconjugates show enhanced bioavailability compared to native molecule.
